Defy The Gods

By: Dorothy B. Thompson PHD

I never bow my head.
I never know my place.
No bibles to be read.
No scowl upon my face.
My voice will say no prayer.
My reason's still intact.
The church will get no share.
Give me logic and fact.
These are my tender knees,
So I don't kneel on them.
There's no god to appease.
Or savior to condemn.
My ears don't want to hear
Some pompous pulpit tone.
Thinking brings me cheer.
I'm best when left alone.
I never play the fool.
Or swallow fairy tales.
And don't want prayer in school.
Prayer gets an F for FAILS!
I wouldn't go to church
Not in a million years.
A preacher on his perch
Dispenses guilt and fears.
Loving and creative,
Inquisitive and strong.
Proudly this earth's native.
I'm hardly ever wrong!
